5 Inch GWR 94XX
GWR This class of locomotive was the last to come from the Great Western drawing office, with the first ten locomotives being the last produced by the Great Western Railway company before nationalization in 1948.
Just before nationalization an order was placed for two hundred more with outside builders, delivery was extended right to the mid 1950s by which time the job they were built for was pretty much gone. In consequence, they enjoyed short working lives in spite of being a modern design.
They represent the last in a long line of pannier tank locomotives used by the Great Western dating back to Victorian times. Just two are preserved, 9400 in the Great Western Museum at Swindon and 9466 in private ownership.
Our model is a faithful representation of the prototype with full detailing, making a most attractive locomotive.
