5 Inch Gauge Maxitrak Pearl - Blue

An older Maxitrak design, no longer in production, Pearl is an 0-4-2ST Saddle tank based on the locomotives built by Kerr Stuart of Stoke-on-Trent during the 1920s. Three classes of locomotive of this type were built in this period, "Wren", "Thames" and "Tattoo".

Pearl is an example of the latter, and similar in design to the smaller Maxitrak "Dixie".

This particular example sports a modified spectacle plate, brass top chimney, optinal sand boxes and a rather fetching blue livery with white and red lining. Twin injectors are a further modification to the standard design along with the Mechanical Lubricator, Cross head pump and hand pump.

The loco ran well, a small amount of wear in the valve gear but not uncommon in a loco made in the 90's, Cheddar Models silver soldered boiler with historic southern fed certificates. All round an easy to use free steaming model with enough weight to pull 6-8 persons all day long yet still light enough for two persons to lift and carry easily!
