Bassett-lowke 1inch scale Traction Engine
Very rare opportunity to buy a piece of Bassett-Lowke history here, everyone has a 3/4" Traction engine, but in the 1930's they produced a 1" Scale twin cylinder traction engine. I for one have never seen one let alone had one to play with, I have added the original sales literature, it's almost 100 years old and as far as I can see it's complete with all the parts and burner!
I very carefully puffed a little air though it and it turned over and chuffed along!! It’s a really well thought out model, very period correct apart from the paint. I think this model warrants a re-paint and then you might have something pretty unique.
The original spec states: the boiler is "Braised water tube boiler tested to 120psi."
Not too sure that I would want to take this old girl up to that pressure but it was a quality model in its day, a lot of talk about German silver which I’m assuming is a kind of nickel silver?
Anyway it's a historic piece, and would look incredible on any mantlepiece!
